The GOLDEN CROSS INTERNATIONAL SINGING FESTIVAL is an International Cultural Event held annually in Malta. The main aim of this non profit event is to promote our local talent internationally with the motto of: peace and friendship through music and arts. This year’s 3rd edition of the festival was a special edition. For the first time this year the festival was held in a new unique venue and consisted of two contests, the Junior Contest (ages 6 to 15) divided into two categories and for the first time the Main Contest (ages 16 to 35). The Golden Cross International Singing Festival 2006 was held between the 25 and 28 July 2006. The venue for the 3rd edition of 2006 was the La Grotta Complex in Gozo where the audience surrounded the stage equipped with state of the art lights and sound. The festival was presented by the three talented singers Gabriella, Christian and Alexia, who despite their young age are already gaining popularity among local music fans. This year’s edition proved to be even more spectacular than the previous two, with the Festival’s organisers having rounded-up an impressive list of guest-performers for the Opening show, which was be held on 25 July. The junior contest and the main contest were held on 26 and 27 July respectively, while the Gala Show for both contests took place on 28 July. The organisers have also secured the participation of renowned international singers. Countries represented in this year’s edition are: England, Bulgaria, Malta, Italy, Romania, Ukraine, Lithuania, Libya, Serbia and Belarus totaling to 50 singers. Both She2’s and Fabrizio Faniello were special guests during the festival days. The festival was of a high standard and the competition intense. The results were: JUNIOR CONTEST: Category A 1st place – Antoine Farrugia (Malta) with the song “Ghadni Zghir” 2nd place – Domenique Azzopardi (Malta) with the song “Tini Idejk” 2nd place – Andrei Liviu Stoian (Romania) with the song “Corina” 3rd place – Charlene Muscat (Malta) with the song “Il-Hajja Zmien Sabih” JUNIOR CONTEST: Category B 1st place – Yaryna Shust (Ukraine) with the song “A Ukrainian Traditional Feast” 2nd place – Urte Silagalyte (Lithuania) with the song “Because of You” 2nd place – Albertine Abela (Malta) with the song “Zghozija” 3rd place – Kimberly Grech (Malta) with the song “Tama ghal Gejjieni” 3rd place – Danica Muscat (Malta) with the song “Fil-Benna tas-Sliem” MAIN CONTEST 1st place – Glorianne Arpa (Malta) with the song “The Gift of Love” 2nd place – Ruth Portelli (Malta) with the song “Bennejja ta’ l-Istorja Maltija” 3rd place – Ava Marija Zdravkovic (Serbia) with the song “Tears in the Eyes” 3rd place – Shokri Gdurat (Libja) with the song “Cries of the Forgotten” BEST NEW SONG Junior Contest – Cat A: Antonella Rapa (Malta) with the song “Id-Dinja ta’ Madwari” Junior Contest – Cat B: Lindsay Lee Zarb (Malta) with the song “Forever Young” Main Contest: Talitha Dimech (Malta) with the song “Free” FIDOF AWARD Junior Contest: Jorje Bosios (Malta) with the song “Habib Tezor” Main Contest: Gianella Mazzola (Malta) with the song “The Time is Now” BEST CHOREOGRAPHY Junior Contest – Cat A: Marzia Farrugia (Malta) with the song “Stejjer” Junior Contest – Cat B: Josmar Gatt (Malta) with the song “You ‘re the One” Main Contest: Jan Pace (Malta) with the song “Ilhna fid-Dezert” BEST PUBLIC OPINION Junior Contest – Cat A: Martha Galea (Malta) with the song “Castles” Junior Contest – Cat B: Yanica Marie Formosa (Malta) with the song “Il-Hajja Sabieha” Main Contest: Sarah De Marco (Malta) with the song “Night Time” GRAND PRIX WINNERS Junior Contest – Shannon Muscat (Malta) with the song “Il Fejn” Author and Composer Augusto Cardinali. Main Contest – Enrico Giacco (Italy) with the song “Avevamo Bisogno D’Amore” author and composer Giovanni Baiardi. For the first time this year, the Public Opinion Award was choosen by SMS voting. Clips with 20 seconds of the song of each participants where shown daily on NET TV and information about all local and foreign participants were published in the festival official website where one had the option to listen to all participating songs. This festival was supported by the Malta Tourism Authority and La Grotta.

BASIC INFORMATION TO LOCAL AND FOREIGN PARTICIPANTS These are the basic information about the Festival: • The contest will be held at the on 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th July 2006. • 25 July 2006 - Official opening of the festival • 26 July 2006 - Junior Contest (Age from 6 to 15 years) • 27 July 2006 - Main Contest (Age from 16 to 35 years) • 28 July 2006 - Gala Show for both Contests • The Venue will be the La Grotta Complex, an open air Club which due to its unique ambiance it is not only the best Club in the Maltese Islands but also one of the best in the Mediterranean (www.lagrottaleisure.com). • For the Junior Contest the age is from 6 to 15 years divided in two categories and for the Main Contest the age is from 16 to 35 years with one category. • A Grand Prix will be awarded both for the Junior Contest and also for Main contest. • The Festival will be broadcasted on a Maltese TV Station. • We are preparing a number of additional activities (such as press-conferences, singing shows, dancing shows, fashion shows and dancing parties, tours around the islands, etc.) for the contestants, guests, members of the jury and journalists accredited to the Festival. • An international jury will decide on finalists and the winning song (performance) of both contests.

Festival bhal dan mill-ewwel kiseb popolarita` u sar avveniment kulturali fix-xena tal-muzika internazzjonali li dahal fil-kalendarju bhala attivita` annwali f’ Malta, bil ghan ewlieni li tinghata aktar spinta lit-talent taghna, bil-motto ‘paci u hbiberija fil-muzika u l-arti'. L-iskop tal-organizzaturi huwa biex kemm il-genituri ta’ kantanti kif ukoll kantanti stess ghandhom jemmnu fil-kapacita taghhom u l-kreattivita` muzikali li ghandhom. Din is-sena kienet it-tielet edizzjoni ta’ dan il-festival u kien wiehed specjali u memorabbli fejn ghall-ewwel darba  ittella` f’ ambjent uniku, fuq erbat ijiem, bejn il-25 u 28 ta’ Lulju gewwa La Grotta, Ghawdex. L-udjenza tpoggiet madwar il-palk, li ghall-okkazjoni kien mghammar bi dwal u sound professjonali li jkun jixraq festival ta’ livell internazzjonali bhal ma huwa l-Golden Cross International Singing Festival, f’ ambjent mill-isbah kif taf toffri La Grotta. Il-festival kien ikopri zewgt kompetizzjonijiet: Junior Contest eta min 6 sa 15–il sena u l-Main Contest minn 16-il sena sa 35 sena. It-tmexxija organizzattiva hasbet biex jinvestu sew f’ dak li huma kantanti u partecipanti ohra. Kantanti barranin, maghrufa f’ dan il-qasam f’ pajjizhom, kienu ghal darb’ ohra prezenti fil-festival. Fill-fatt din is-sena pajjizi partecipanti kienu: Ingilterra, Italja, Bulgarija, Malta, Ukraina, Romania, Lithuania, Libja, Serbia & Montenegro u Belarus. o Tlieta 25 ta’ Lulju 2006 ic-cerimonja tal-inawgurazzjoni tat-tielet edizzjoni fejn ser issir serata ta’ kant u zfin. o Erbgha 26 ta’ Lulju 2006 isir il-Junior Contest. o Hamis 27 ta’ Lulju 2006 isir il-Main Contest. o Gimgha 28 ta’ Lulju 2006 issir l-Gala Show ghar-rebbieha tal-Junior Contest u l-Main Contest.
