The GOLDEN CROSS INTERNATIONAL SINGING FESTIVAL is an International Cultural Event held annually in Malta. The main aim of this non profit event is to promote our local talent internationally with the motto of: peace and friendship through music and arts.
This year’s 3rd edition of the festival was a special edition. For the first time this year the festival was held in a new unique venue and consisted of two contests, the Junior Contest (ages 6 to 15) divided into two categories and for the first time the Main Contest (ages 16 to 35).
The Golden Cross International Singing Festival 2006 was held between the 25 and 28 July 2006. The venue for the 3rd edition of 2006 was the La Grotta Complex in Gozo where the audience surrounded the stage equipped with state of the art lights and sound. The festival was presented by the three talented singers Gabriella, Christian and Alexia, who despite their young age are already gaining popularity among local music fans. This year’s edition proved to be even more spectacular than the previous two, with the Festival’s organisers having rounded-up an impressive list of guest-performers for the Opening show, which was be held on 25 July. The junior contest and the main contest were held on 26 and 27 July respectively, while the Gala Show for both contests took place on 28 July. The organisers have also secured the participation of renowned international singers. Countries represented in this year’s edition are: England, Bulgaria, Malta, Italy, Romania, Ukraine, Lithuania, Libya, Serbia and Belarus totaling to 50 singers. Both She2’s and Fabrizio Faniello were special guests during the festival days.
The festival was of a high standard and the competition intense.

2nd place – Domenique Azzopardi (Malta) with the song “Tini Idejk”
2nd place – Andrei Liviu Stoian (Romania) with the song “Corina”
3rd place – Charlene Muscat (Malta) with the song “Il-Hajja Zmien Sabih”
JUNIOR CONTEST: Category B
1st place – Yaryna Shust (Ukraine) with the song “A Ukrainian Traditional Feast”
2nd place – Urte Silagalyte (Lithuania) with the song “Because of You”
2nd place – Albertine Abela (Malta) with the song “Zghozija”
3rd place – Kimberly Grech (Malta) with the song “Tama ghal Gejjieni”
3rd place – Danica Muscat (Malta) with the song “Fil-Benna tas-Sliem”
MAIN CONTEST
1st place – Glorianne Arpa (Malta) with the song “The Gift of Love”
2nd place – Ruth Portelli (Malta) with the song “Bennejja ta’ l-Istorja Maltija”
3rd place – Ava Marija Zdravkovic (Serbia) with the song “Tears in the Eyes”
3rd place – Shokri Gdurat (Libja) with the song “Cries of the Forgotten”

For the first time this year, the Public Opinion Award was choosen by SMS voting. Clips with 20 seconds of the song of each participants where shown daily on NET TV and information about all local and foreign participants were published in the festival official website where one had the option to listen to all participating songs.
This festival was supported by the Malta Tourism Authority and La Grotta.
